On our first night in our new Philadelphia apartment, I owed Jim big-time for all the work he did to move us in. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and since I don’t cook, it was going to have to be a restaurant.
I took the safe route, and we headed over to Wm. Mulherin’s Sons in Fishtown. Our friend Steve had introduced us to the place about a year ago, so we knew it was good. Our only concern was whether we could get in without a reservation, but we thought we’d have a chance on a Tuesday night.
After being told there might be a wait, we were seated very quickly in one of the cozy rooms. Happily, the second visit was just as good as the first. The wait staff advises sharing, which we also advise – it gives you the opportunity to try more dishes. We shared octopus, a lamb ravioli special and the renowned Half Brick Chicken. (According to our waiter, when Greg Vernick eats here, he orders the chicken. More on that in another post.)
All of the dishes were wonderful, and if you can’t decide which grill item to choose, order the Half Brick Chicken. Jim and I (and Greg Vernick) wouldn’t steer you wrong.
