Southern Exposure

Riding the cable car to the top of Table Mountain is one of those “must do” things in Cape Town, which means every tourist in town is in line with us at the moment. Especially since it was closed on Tuesday due to high winds. But we were advised to get it in when the weather was good so here we wait. Oh well, I’m using the time to compose this missive.
Yesterday we got a daylong tour of the Southern Cape, down to the Cape of Good Hope, another must-do thing but well worth it. The southern-most point on the African continent, it is falsely but frequently referred to as the point at which the Indian and Pacific oceans meet. In truth the entire cape on local maps is shown as being surrounded by the Atlantic.
We saw more wildlife, including a group of ostrich and more baboons, which can be quite troublesome. They can and do get into unlocked cars, for example. There are signs all around admonishing people not to feed them but I’m certain some do-gooder tourists ignore those signs. We hiked up to the cape lighthouse for our first exercise on this trip after riding in the back of game trucks; had a beer at a seaside town that is probably a hopping place on a summer weekend; saw the cape penguins; did some shopping at a local market, and finished off with an anniversary dinner at a restaurant operated by a local celebrity chef. Overall, a good way to spend our 30th anniversary.
