We arrived at our hotel in the wine region north of Cape Town on Friday morning. It was a delightfully warm day, honestly the first really warm day since we arrived in South Africa. With temps in the 80s, Pat actually broke out the shorts for the first time and the hotel arranged for us to play golf at a local course. It was a Nicklaus course in a housing develop, ent, so it was a nice track. We just played nine but it was a nice lark.
The hotel, La Residence, is about a half mile outside of the village of Franschhoek. The grounds are gorgeous, with views of the nearby vineyards and mountains. There are resident peacocks — noisy buggers if interesting to look at — and some springboks, which are the country’s national animal. Another member of the antelope family, they are sort of like smaller versions of the impalas that were so prevalent in the bush. Rooms are over the top, as seen below, which is our room.
It was cloudy so we weren’t able actually see the sun slip behind the mountains but we enjoyed a beautiful red sky as we looked westward from our balcony. Here are some views.
Today, unfortunately, turned cooler again, with low clouds enveloping the peak seen in the middle of the above picture. Today we spent touring some of the wineries. We tasted some nice wines, one of which we may be able to get back home, and had lunch at a restaurant owned by Ernie Els. We may have more to say on that on our wine tour but for now we another lovely sky beckons, along with my sundowner. Sunday begins the long trek home.

I love the pink sky, the scene that looks like a golf course with many water holes and I would love to soak in that beautiful tub – if I could get out afterI'll have to prove once again I am not a robotlove Mom
