For years while my mother was alive we would make the drive through the heart of Amish country in Pennsylvania in route to Meadville, where she lived, but never stopped. Yesterday we finally stayed over as a prelude to attending the final round of the Women’s U.S.Open in Lancaster. Lancaster is only 60 or so miles from our home in Trenton, easily doable in a day trip, but Pat found a nice inn in Churchville, PA , which isn’t much of a town, really, but it’s only 30 minutes or so from the Open venue. The Inn at Twin Linden is on the main road from Morgantown and surprisingly busy with cars, motorcycles and of course, the buggies of the Amish. But the grounds are lovely and the innkeeper is a recent transplant from the Trenton area. We are everywhere, it seems.

Dinner was at a place called Emily’s in Mohnton, and it was excellent. Martinis arrive in their own shakers; can’t beat that. Pat had a steak from a local farm that might have been among the best we’ve ever tasted. Because I turned left out of the inn’s driveway on the way, our GPS took us on a very scenic route via back roads that was really very cool, but I was glad to have the direct route back. It’s very dark out here at night, that’s all I have to say. Here are some additional pictures from around the inn. We would recommend it to anyone planning a visit to the area.
