Clubs? What Clubs?

Yesterday was our day to play golf at the course operated by the adjacent Four Seasons resort. I won’t bore readers with the details, other than to say Pat played pretty well, I played so-so. The course, however, was beautiful and a lot of fun, as the photos below show. We encountered a group of white-faced monkeys cavorting along one of the holes. Those pictures are a little out of focus but you will get the idea.
Yesterday’s challenge was actually getting to play golf.  We expected to encounter some service issues because our hotel, the Andaz Papagayo is so new; it opened a week before Christmas. But yesterday it was almost a scene out of the old Keystone Cops’ shorts. The earnest front-desk staff all knew that we were going to play golf, wished us well, etc.  We thought they had sent our clubs over to the course upon our arrival, which is kind of S.O.P. at resorts that offer golf.  Wrong.  We get to the course and no clubs. Thankfully, the people at the Four Seasons all have their acts together.  They sent us off with rentals to warm up while they tracked down the golf bags at Andaz.
Here is where it gets comical.  While at the practice area one of our bags shows up from the Andaz. Yes one. So where is the other one? Much back and forth in Spanish. We putz around for a while longer. Finally bag number two turns up. To add insult to injury, one of the all-in-one travel bags I bought (the first one to turn up) was damaged somewhere in transit; clubs were falling out of the bottom. So, it was pretty obvious that bag was not going to make it home.  Luckily the head pro appeared at the end of the day and said he would research whether the Four Seasons could arrange shipping, or if he could locate another travel bag.  I had no faith that the people at Andaz, despite their good intentions, could have figured it out to be honest. As it turns out, the director of golf recently bought a travel case that he is going to sell to me.  It will be about half of the cost of shipping to the US. Not something I expected to buy, but I had a solution by the end of the day. Very good service and we aren’t even guests at the Four Seasons.
