Gyros & Souvlaki & Kebabs, Oh My!

Last year in Palermo we waited until our last night to have a pizza. We didn’t make that mistake in Greece. On our first day, just off the plane ( as Jim recounts belos), we had lunch of Mina salad and kebabs. (And yes, beer at 11 am, but who’s counting after an overnight flight?) We topped off the night with gyros, souvlaki and Greek salad sitting on our hotel’s rooftop patio overlooking the Illuminated Acropolis.

I’d had the idea of a romantic dinner overlooking the Acropolis since our friend Candice told us about her enchanted night in Athens. Ours was more the Pat and Jim version. After a speed- tour of ancient Athens, including the Acropolis and Agora, we took our complimentary mini-bottle of wine to the rooftop to contemplate dinner. I was tired and looked like I hadn’t slept all night. So I offered to fly if Jim would buy – hence, our ‘romantic’ take- out dinner overlooking the Acropolis.

Now it’s back to the room for a date with Ambien so we’re ready for the next day’s adventure – more of old city and some churches.
